Sketches From The Farm

Lambing 2017 is coming to a close over at South Linden Farm, and if you have been following my Instagram and Facebook Page you can quite clearly see that our Sheep have been a big influence and inspiration for some of my most recent works.

The farm has a small flock of 54 Suffolk X, but even that can still make us get up through the night to check on them. Its also been a first for me with helping out that little bit more in the Lambing shed since Jack and I moved in together, and I have started to discover that I am painting more of daily life on the farm, creating more sketchbook work and capturing those little moments than doing a big painting.

                                                                    "Wait For M…

                                                                    "Wait For Me"

                                                              "Best seat in the House"

                                                              "Best seat in the House"

                                                                      "Guz…

                                                                      "Guzzlers"

The sketchbook has been over flowing with sheep throughout Lambing. How could I resist painting these cute little creatures?!  And since we've all suffered a little bit of Lambing brain its hard to tear yourself away from them.

                                                                      &nbs…

                                                                       "40 Winks"

                                                                      &nbs…

                                                                         "Spring"

With these (very rare) days of sunshine in Northumberland, the cattle are starting to go out in the fields on the farm after wintering in the sheds. The Calves are being kept in a little longer for a bit more TLC. Jack is overjoyed that he's given himself even more work to do mucking out the empty sheds! But at least the cattle are finally enjoying a bit of sunshine on there backs, its also sparked yet more imagination for a few paintings.

                                                                      &nbs…

                                                                        "Calves"

                                                                   "Double Trou…

                                                                   "Double Trouble"

This way of life on the farm is all new to me. I am not from a farming family, everyday jobs on the farm gave me inspiration into the recent paintings of the “Child and Collie” Collection. I think we can all agree that these are becoming quite popular and how could anyone resist?! Its also been so nice to do smaller paintings that can be completed in a few days rather than a few weeks or months.

And here is where the initial idea and start of the collection sparked from..... meet Tess, our gorgeous Collie. The bond and friendship Jack and Tess have is second to non and I have certainly found out the pecking order in the household since living with Jack. Tess is, and always shall be number one in his life and I am a very close second!

                                                          The number one girl... Tess!

With farming life getting me into creative mode, I am working on a few projects for myself in the background that I can't reveal yet... lets just say that it will be a real page turner!
